Divorce lawyer Hannah Stern quit the family firm when her mother Ruth denied her promotion to work for rival Noble and Hale. When her client, arrogant tycoon David McKenzie springs his desire for a divorce on wife Goldie Hannah feels sympathetic to Goldie whilst opposing her sister Nina when comic's wife Sarah Pope seeks a divorce from husband Rex for lampooning her in his act. Hannah reaches a compromise in the latter case but increasingly tries to support Goldie.
