13 years after her entire village of a race of elf's known as 'Blackbloods' was destroyed by mercenaries, a young Blackblood named Talon embarks on a journey to a remote outpost village, called Gallstone, on the edge of the known realm to find the mercenaries who killed her people. There she meets Captain Garret Spears of the local Guard whose father, the gate master Marshal Whiters, takes an instant dislike to Talon, a stranger in their community.
