London detective Harry Clayton is a luckless gambler, whose habit has caused his barrister wife Anna to leave him, with their young daughter Daisy. Harry owes huge sums to casino owner Freddie Lau but, after a one-night stand with the mysterious Eve, who leaves him with a bangle he cannot remove, his fortunes change for the better. However Freddie is murdered, along with stripper Kayleigh Fenchurch and Harry discovers that Freddie stole Kayleigh from sacked croupier Kevin Grey, who now works for Freddie's daughter Lily-Anne. After joining Anna at the hospital when Daisy has an accident Harry again meets Eve, who tells him that the bangle was intended for another man but will bring him excessive luck - which he will need when, as a novice speedboat pilot, he and colleague Suri pursue Grey on the Thames.

Though Grey escapes Harry is hailed a hero for rescuing his colleagues from the river - by all except Superintendent Winter, suspicious of Harry's connection to Freddie. Harry traces a plane hired by Lily-Anne for Grey's supposed escape which is full of money, though Lily-Anne denies any crime. Then through Harry's wheeler-dealer brother Rich Harry meets a forger of passports who leads him to arresting Grey, though he is taken aback when Anna proves to be defending Grey on the murder charges. Harry once more encounters Eve, who saves him from a gunman and tells him he must use his lucky bracelet for the general good, not personal gain. Back home Harry works out that every good thing the bracelet brings him seems to be counter-balanced by something bad, especially when a colleague collapses after Harry has done a good deed for a woman at his Gamblers Anonymous group..

Finding it impossible to remove the bracelet and having learned of its slightly sinister history Harry confronts Eve, who says she purposely gave it him as part of her plan to avenge her mother's death. Following the death of colleague Ben for which his mother and Winters both blame Harry, Suri is given compassionate leaving, discovering possible fraud at Lau's casino whilst Kevin Grey kills himself in custody. Harry is reluctantly teamed with caustic Steve Orwell to investigate diamond robberies at Hatton Garden but when they confront the robbers Harry gets a shock.

Kate Olsen, who was investigating Vincent Lermontov, the businessman who killed himself, is abducted from her office by Becker, the sinister Russian who was stalking Harry. Put in charge of the investigation to locate her Harry discovers that Lermontov once wore the bracelet Eve gave him, a fact also noticed by Lermontov's son Paul. Escaping an attempt to kill them Suri and Harry find a link with the Russian mafia and manage to save Kate. However Harry is taken prisoner by Becker and finds he is not the only captive. Orwell, meanwhile, tries to prove that Harry was involved in illegal dealings with Mr Lau.

Eve manages to overpower and kill Becker, allowing her and Harry to escape. Meanwhile gambling club owner Caleb Pursey is shot dead on his own premises and the killer is identified as gambling addict Tim Larson. Whilst Suri links a man at Larson's workplace to Lily-Anne's suspected money laundering scheme Harry tracks Larson down at an underground gaming den. He believes Larson was heavily in debt to Lily-Anne, who waived the debt provided he killed rival club owner Pursey. After police raid the Green Dragon and arrest Lily-Anne Harry steals evidence to prove his theory that she pressurized Larson to kill her rival. Meanwhile Suri intercepts a message to Winter incriminating Harry.

After Suri has told him about the plan to discredit him and quizzed him about Eve Harry investigates the killing of teenager Luke Bangura, whose mutilated body is found in a car park due for demolition. The mayor's office puts out a story of African ritual killings but, on learning that Luke was going to a clinic to give blood, he believes he was a victim of an illegal organ trade, involving Deputy Mayor Frierson, a former policeman who seemingly blocked the investigation into the murder of Eve's mother Maria. Suri goes undercover at the clinic to trap Frierson but is only partially successful. At the same time Anna, taking a mentoring role at the prison where Kevin Grey died, is told that his death was ordered by the same man Eve believes killed her mother.

Suri and Harry interview Anton, a dying man who tells them he was fleeing from Golding, the man who was involved in the deaths of Eve's mother and Kevin Grey. They discover that Anton, real name Tony. and his partner Jed befriended wealthy foreign students and then stole their credit cards. With Jed also dead Harry sees a link with Russian student Sasha Terekhova, suspecting that her father hired Golding to kill the boys but Sasha is not forthcoming and afterwards Harry and Suri survive another attempt on their lives in which Suri is injured. Meanwhile Winter begins to suspect that Frierson may be corrupt and refuses to sack Harry, leading Frierson to approach the envious Orwell. Anna tells Harry of her discovery but he warns her not to get involved, especially as she is now dating prison governor Julian.

Harry's brother Rich wakes up, covered in blood, to find his girlfriend Barbara shot dead with one of his antique guns. Though ordered off the case Harry, helped by Eve, determines to prove that he has been framed and finds a connection to Sasha's minder Collins. Confronting Collins Harry obtains evidence of his guilt but, with Suri now beginning to believe that may have been involved in Lau's murder, he is himself framed for another murder. Anna meanwhile tells Nikhail that she is interested in unmasking Golding - and he appears to have the same intention.

Charged with Becker's murder Harry is unable to explain about his time as Becker's prisoner and escape with Eve and he is remanded in jail with Rich, where he learns the extent to which some of the convicts, on Golding's orders, will go to obtain the bracelet. Whilst Frierson and Orwell work to incriminate Harry Winter and Suri discover evidence of past corruption and of the framing of Harry and make an arrest. Anna meanwhile puts herself in danger in her efforts to unmask Golding, whose apparent identity horrifies Harry.

In jail Harry finds himself face to face with Golding, who explains his connection to Lermentov and his reason for wanting the bracelet whilst the captive Eve also leanrs the reason for her mother's death. Golding threatens to kill Anna and Daisy unless Harry commits suicide but Harry, helped by Tim Larson and a grudging Rich, escapes and finds out where Golding is holding Anna, Daisy and Eve captive. Now aware of Orwell's double dealings Winter and Suri also head for the house, leading to a shoot-out which will prove whether or not Harry is a lucky man.

Six months have passed. Golding is on the run and Anna believes she has seen him but Harry, who has eschewed gambling, resists Eve's notion that they use the bracelet to locate him. Returning to work with Suri and the discredited Orwell Harry investigates a serial killer who murders his, seemingly random victims, with a ricin injection. Partly with assistance from the bracelet they track down the culprit, Amit, a disturbed young man who is taking revenge on those whom he believed ruined his life but he eludes them and the chase leads to a casino where Harry meets Isabella, a woman with a bracelet identical to his. After Amit has again escaped Harry encounters Isabella a second time and asks if the bracelet can help catch him. Eventually, following an attack on several police officers Amit is caught, thanks to Isabella's information and Harry goes to see her, unaware that they are being watched.

Kevin Jones, boyfriend of police officer Ade, is murdered after leaving a gay club and the demoted Orwell joins Harry and Suri as their investigations lead to Reverend Anthony Huxley, who preaches homophobic sermons to his large congregation. Harry discovers that Kevin had recently left Huxley's church, though Huxley, revealed to have been struck off as a psychiatrist for practising gay conversion therapy, denies knowing him. Then Melanie Spencer, who also quit the congregation, is killed. Harry believes he has the evidence to charge Huxley but, having survived an attempt on his own life thanks to the bracelet, looks to Melanie's widower to close the case. Meanwhile, after she has been accused by Eve of manipulating Harry, Isabella shocks him with her claim that they are invincible.

Harry's introduction to Anna's new partner Jonny, engineered by Isabella, is interrupted when human remains baked in a pie are found in the stomach of a man who died of cardiac arrest . The victim is identified as forger Adam Sykes and the trail leads to Smithfield market and an abandoned van, used by Golding, Sykes' killer, to abduct Eve. Taken off the case for personal reasons Harry approaches Isabella who refuses to help, claiming that Eve was responsible for her daughters' deaths. To save herself Eve directs Golding to Isabella, who appears to lure Harry into a trap but turns the tables on Golding before he can sever Harry's arm and claim the bracelet. Golding is recaptured but the two women still try to persuade Harry to mistrust the other.

After foiling a mugger - due to his luck - Harry investigates when Mary Wells dies testing a prototype driverless car designed by her husband Davey. Harry interviews Davey's head of legal Lakshi Perera as well as Rachel Spikes and Woody Gilbert whose company helped develop the car since all were present at car's launch and in a position to tamper with it. Later Harry discovers that Mary wished to divorce Davey as he was having an affair with Lakshi but Davey is also found dead and Woody goes missing. Harry uses his luck to locate the chief suspect, hear their excuse for what happened and once more take a gamble on surviving his hunch. Eve also explains to Harry how she and Isabella were once friends and what drove them apart but Harry is more intent on having a good night out with Isabella.

When several bodies are, over a period of time, dragged from the river, the common link is that all the victims had had organ transplants at the Regent clinic and all were injected with Pentaprevin. Nurse Scarlett Cartmell had been fired from the clinic for stealing the drug but, after she is found dead, Harry almost becomes the next victim of a self-righteous murderer. Given her part in his rescue Harry starts to trust Isabella - until he receives a disturbing video from Eve.

Hitman Jurgen Bloch slaughters all nine passengers on a flight to London from Oslo to retrieve the back-pack of one of them, student Elliot Aimes. Harry learns that Bloch is the man who killed Isbella's children and whom she went after and left for dead though she seems strangely non-committal when challenged. Elliot was involved in smuggling priceless art works with three accomplices, whom Bloch also kills. Harry joins forces with Isabella to hunt him down with two differing views of justice whilst Harry's daughter Daisy takes an interest in his bracelet.

Investigating the murder of Dean Adams, Harry finds a hair linking Lily-Anne Lau to being the possible killer but when the hair mysteriously vanishes she is released and Orwell suspected of collusion with her. When a witness to the murder is also shot dead Orwell goes into hiding but Harry believes in his innocence and sets out to prove it. Eve once more falls into the clutches of Isabella, who shocks Anna by demonstrating the bracelet's power but Harry is even more shocked to see who is Isabella's new boy-friend.

Several wanted criminals are being slain and Harry realizes that Isabella is responsible, using her relationship with Winter to identify them and track them down. The latest victim is a loan shark to whom gambling addict Bill Martin owed seventy seven thousand pounds though Bill commits suicide, with Isabella conveniently nearby. Eve, having escaped from Isabella, helps Harry to frame her for Bill's death but Isabella, devious as ever, provides evidence to incriminate Eve and then takes her revenge on Harry.

Believing Harry to be dead after the accident staged by Isabella Eve removes his bracelet but is mugged by down on his luck boxer Jay Tate and puts it on his wrist. Consequently Jay gets a much needed winning streak, making him feel invincible. Recovering in hospital Harry tells Winter all about Isabella and her murderous ways, convincing his superior that she was responsible for the attempt on his life. Unfortunately Winter confronts her with Harry's accusations, putting himself in great danger. Eve and Harry meanwhile locate Jay, who learns the hard way the bracelet's downside before taking drastic action to remove it.

After a colleague becomes Isabella's latest victim Harry puts the bracelet back on in an effort to defeat her. Reunited with Anna he sends her and Daisy to safety but Isabella abducts Rich instead, leading to Harry having to tell Suri about her affair with him. Harry saves Rich and Isabella is arrested but even in custody she is a dangerous woman and, having succumbed to Eve's suggestion that he kill her, Harry must face Isabella for a final show-down.

Accompanied by Suri and Orwell Harry pursues Eve to Hong Kong, where she has fled after being accused of killing gang member Hon Wai. Learning that he is suspected of murdering Isabella Harry joins her on the run, discovering the bracelet's origin and escaping from sadistic Samuel Blake, who wants it for himself.

Eve and Harry return to London smuggled into a freight container and are instantly targeted by a gunman who is himself shot dead. His wallet contains a pass to Hawksmoor Import and Export company. Gray is suspicious that Suri may still be loyal to Harry and asks Ormond to watch her but Harry foils Suri's attempt to track him down using Rich. Harry and Eve infiltrate Hawksmoor and see Blake discussing the next shipload of heroin coming in. Framed for killing forger Bobby Hayes Harry meets with Gray to tell her that Blake is using the triad to smuggle drugs but Gray has a shock for him.

Harry escapes from Gray and Blake, to hide out on a houseboat with Rich. Eve is arrested but breaks free though leaving behind the gun which supposedly killed Isabella. Suri is ordered off the case but meets the brothers, storming off when Rich rejects her. Harry plans to retrieve the gun from the police evidence room, paying burglar Darius Kelleher to assist. Eve breaks into Hawksmoor, where Blake tells her he needs to get the bracelet and takes her to MI6. Harry steals the gun but runs into Blake, who has Suri and Eve dangling from ropes over the Thames and Harry is told he can only save one of them when Blake cuts the ropes.

Believing he has let Eve die Harry finds his luck waning as the bracelet's power seems to be failing him whilst Suri discovers that policeman Dan Morrison is a fraud, who has disappeared. She and Harry find him but he is shot dead after asking for protection from Blake. Harry meets Madame Cheung who tells him the bracelet will kill him unless he gets her the second one and that Blake abducted Eve. Suri sees Gray meeting secretly with Blake and blackmails her into helping to expose him whilst Harry locates Eve after Blake has released her but has brain-washed her into turning against Harry.

Armed police raid a drugs deal organized by Blake but he escapes, helped by Eve. His adoptive father Tai Jing, head of the Wu Chi triad, arrives in London but does not share Blake's belief in the power of the bracelets, leading Blake to take murderous action. Harry proposes a sting to catch Blake and the Wu Chi smugglers in the act, which leads the police nearer to netting Blake but Harry has lost much of the money set aside for the operation to seductive gambler Rachel Reeve.

Having lost Rich's flat to Rachel gambling Harry manages to win it back again but notices that the bracelet is getting darker, anticipating his possible demise. Gray shows MI5 boss Hutchinson evidence of Blake shooting at the police but fails to convince him of Blake's duplicity, after which Hutchinson is threatened by Blake. Gray survives an attempt on her life which kills her chauffeur and CCTV shows Blake to be responsible. She captures him but he escapes and Harry suggests to her she give a press conference to flush him out. However Blake and Eve are lying in wait and shots ring out.

Blake is arrested and remanded in custody for killing Suri, at whose funeral Harry notices the bracelet turning black. After a beating by prison guards Blake is transferred to hospital and Harry foils Eve's plan to spring him, tracking her down. Seemingly contrite after Blake's demise she gives Harry the second bracelet, allowing Madame Cheung to lift the curse on him. However her contrition may not be genuine and her efforts to aid Blake more successful than it appeared.

Blake puts his grand plan into action forcing Harry to summon all of his courage to take on his nemesis without the aid of the bracelets in the last-ever episode of the thriller.
