"Drop Dead Diva" - "Hit and Run" - June 19, 2011Season three picks up where season two left off as Jane is at the hospital by the comatose Grayson's side, wondering what it meant that he looked at her and called her "Deb" after the accident. She has several odd dreams-- including a musical sequence where she and the cast jam to the Thelma Houston disco classic "Don't Leave Me This Way"-- about Grayson. After Parker arrives to give Jane her new case she reluctantly leaves Grayson under the watchful eye of Vanessa.Later Jane rolls over in bed and finds Paula Abdul who is there to counsel her, dream sequence-style, to grow up and accept that she is nothing more than Grayson's good friend now. Fred is on her other side and advises the same. Jane insists that somehow Grayson knows she's Deb.She goes to visit him and chats with the neurologist who encourages her to talk to him even though he's comatose. Jane wonders what to say, telling him the news: Kim left the firm, she's representing a movie star but she says she'd much rather tell him how much she misses him and them as a couple and how she wants him to be happy but watching him with Vanessa is killing her. She grabs his hand, saying it might make her the worst person in the world but she knows Vanessa isn't his soul mate, Jane is, because she's actually Deb. He opens his eyes and asks what happened. She explains he was in an accident but is okay now. He looks at her and asks who she is. Turns out he has retrograde amnesia which is common for coma patients but he should be okay. Both she and Vanessa are thrilled.Back at the office Fred asks Jane what's up. She lashes out at him saying he's falling down on his job as guardian angel letting Grayson's accident happen. He says he begged her not to go the restaurant and that he can't see the future so it's not his fault. She kicks him out.Grayson gets his memory back and asks to see Jane. She arrives and Fred is there in the hallway. She apologizes to him for saying the accident was his fault. She goes into Grayson's room and Vanessa is there. He tells her that he and Vanessa are getting married and he wants Jane to be his "best man." She agrees, of course. He then says they're moving the wedding up to one month from today because after his accident he's realized there's no reason to wait. She's devastated but puts up a good show. She walks by Fred in the hallway, tearful. He asks if she's okay, she says she will be.There are two law cases tonight in addition to the Grayson drama.Kim and Parker face off over a booty call between a divorced couple and Jane represents a wealthy bad boy actor on trial for a hit and run of a 12-year-old girl. The bad boy actor in question is one Tim Klein who trashes hotel rooms, gets DUIs, and stars in movies with titles like "Bad Blood 3." He is managed by his protective older brother Mark. Jane is initially resistant to the case but celeb-loving Stacy urges her to take it when Parker offers it to her to get her out of the hospital and away from moping about Grayson. He even tells Stacy she can be Jane's "intern" since she knows every tabloid factoid about Tim Klein: his cars, his contentious divorce, his astrological sign.Jane meets with him and isn't convinced he's innocent but when "Extra" shows up and Jane confronts them about trampling Tim's rights, Tim announces she's his lawyer. Jane seems to enjoy that moment in the spotlight and gets down to work trying to prove Tim's innocence. His alibi is that he was home all night and that someone stole his car and then dumped it off Mulholland to hide the evidence. When a cop on the stand says this is unlikely, Jane points out that it's not impossible though, that an absence of evidence doesn't mean the same thing as actual evidence. The twists come when Jason's soon-to-be-ex-wife Lana shows up with a surprise alibi, she was there the night of the accident-- which in the course of the show has become a manslaughter case when the girl dies- and has a packing box to prove it. Something meant to be sent to her was sent to her old address by accident and she went to pick it up that night. When the prosecutor reveals that it seems very suspicious that Lana is now providing an alibi she could've provided a month ago, and that Tim agreed to give her the house in Aspen-- a sticking point in the divorce-- he accuses of her perjury, of being bribed for an alibi. She denies this but the damage is done. Later, Mark, Tim's older brother shows up and confesses. Jane is not so sure. Thanks to Stacy's fresh eyes on the evidence they notice the driver's seat was pushed way up by the last person who drove Tim's Ferrari. Through this they deduce, correctly, that it was in fact Lana-- his vindictive soon to be ex-- that was driving the car. The DA drops all charges against Tim and Lana is cuffed on the spot.In the Kim and Parker drama we learn that Kim is now operating out of a coffee shop after leaving the firm. She is approached by old friend Penny who confesses she had a booty call with her cheating ex-husband Kevin. He coaxed her into bed by saying he was going to therapy and was a changed man because of it. She's so mad she wants to sue and wants Kim to help. Kevin is good friends with Parker so he hires him as his attorney.Parker sets up a meeting with Kim under the guise of settlement talks but he really just wanted to see her and to apologize and see if they could fix what he broke with his errant kiss. She says they cannot and she'll see him in court. The judge dismisses the case as frivolous but when Kim wants to change the charges to "false advertising" he kicks it over to commercial arbitration where his sister is the presiding judge. After hearing from Kevin's doctor that he claimed he was a changed man but that the doctor didn't really believe him, the judge finds in favor of Penny and the punishment consists of Kevin buying a billboard on the Sunset Strip that basically says he's a toolbag who uses women. Penny and Kim are happy.Parker goes to Kim's coffee shop office to try one more tme to apologize. She says she believes he feels remorse but it doesn't matter and asks him to leave. He does, but not before saying that he's not giving up.

"Drop Dead Diva" - "False Alarm" - June 26, 2011Big transitions tonight and some folks are getting down to business.First up, tonight's cases. It turns out that while Teri and her boyfriend Gary were heating things up in the bedroom--with him in his firefighter gear-- the apartment building nearby caught on fire. Gary rushed over and saved several people's lives. Unfortunately, one of the women he saved has decided to sue him because she broke one of her ribs as he was bringing her down the fire escape. Teri tries to enlist Jane to represent him but Parker has other ideas. He wants Jane to help in tonight's other case: Kim is suing a surgery center for a botched breast augmentation that led to a young aspiring model's death on behalf of her mother. Parker knows she could use the help and they could use the money if she wins. So he agrees to take on Teri's case.Everything seems to be going fine, open and shut when Parker points out that the woman is, well, alive thanks to Gary, therefore he's a hero. The hitch in their giddy-up comes when opposing counsel points out a small detail: Gary's not actually a firefighter. Teri, understandably, freaks and storms off. He comes to the office to plead his case saying he dreamed his whole life of being a firefighter until he hurt his back in ROTC and rendered himself ineligible. He still applied in Fresno, Carlsbad, and San Jose but was turned down everywhere so he became an accountant. When he saw how Teri looked at him, seeing the man he wished he could be, when she thought he was a firefighter, he wanted to be that man for her. This wins her over and she convinces Parker to go for a "good samaritan" case instead. She even takes to the stand to testify on his behalf of the heroism she witnessed that night. It does come out in the case, however, that the reason the woman broke her rib was because Gary fell on her. The judge ultimately dismisses the case but the bigger bombshell arrives after the fact: Parker did some digging and it turns out in Fresno, Carlsbad, and San Jose police were looking for a firebug/good samaritan. Teri tells Gary it's over, to get some help, and that a cop is waiting downstairs to talk to him. Later, in the bar, she tearfully deletes pictures of them from her phone. In tonight's other case, Kim reluctantly agrees to taking Jane-- and Parker's help-- with the stipulation that she not see Parker. While the surgery center tries some shady tactics with discovery-- burying evidence and the like-- Jane and Kim feel they have a strong case since the surgeon was aware that what the young woman died of--essentially a heart attack brought on by the anesthesia-- was possible and, if he'd had the right meds on hand, treatable. The hitch in their giddy-up comes when the young woman's mother is tearfully testifying about taking her daughter to the surgery center and helping her fill out the intake forms. When the opposing counsel points out that the spot for "anti-depressants" went unchecked the mother is confused. She didn't know her daughter was on them and, apparently, if the doctors had known they would've used different anesthesia. The mother is devastated thinking it was her fault, that he daughter couldn't confide in her and wants to drop the case. But Jane and Kim are tenacious and Jane has a stroke of genius after looking at the girl's modeling portfolio/pictures/tape. She realizes she recognizes the name of the scuzzy modeling agency she went to and the man there that she once encountered who also told her to get a boob job. She sends Stacy in as a ringer, an aspiring model and he tells her also to get a boob job. After they do a little digging they uncover that the modeling agency dude has a controlling interest in the surgery center. Oops. Jane calls in a bunch of women who went to this guy and they reveal they were all referred for boob jobs at the center. She and Kim decide to file civil assault charges on behalf of all the women and the judge is buying what they're selling, kicking the charges up to the DA, filing an injunction to shut down the surgery center and forcing them to give the young woman's mother a nice settlement. In personal news Stacy has been doing a lot of running lately. A lot. Jane knows this means her BFF is frustrated. It turns out that Fred really likes to kiss. And that's it. It turns out that he's very intimidated by Stacy, comparing sleeping with her as a first-timer to a first time mountain climber trying to tackle Everest. He makes some unfortunate moves trying to rub her feet and blow in her ears but only manages to tickle her and end up swallowing her earring. So he breaks down and calls Jane for advice, she gives a blow by blow of what he should do and.. the next morning when Jane sees Stacy at breakfast, she is not in her running gear and says Fred was so amazing and intuitive it was like he knew exactly what to do.Fred made that call to Jane while she was out on a first date with Grayson's doctor. In an earlier meeting with Grayson and the doc it was clear that he was sweet on Jane and she might like him too as they conversed excitedly, and geekily, about the brain. He called to set up a date --which Teri upgraded from lunch to dinner-- and Jane was going to cancel, until Grayson basically dumped planning his wedding in her lap because Vanessa was called out of town. So Jane went on the date, and although it was going disastrously at first, it got a lot better. So much better in fact that after Stacy tells her story about Fred and inquires after Jane's date, the man himself comes walking out of Jane's bedroom to give her a morning smooch. He can't stay for breakfast but will call her later. It's sweet and kind of sexy and Stacy is slightly scandalized.Later, Jane has Stacy find a special old memento: the "my dream wedding" scrapbook she made as Deb, one week before she died. She takes out the picture of herself and Grayson and slips in one of him and Vanessa and gives it to him as a gift explaining that it's color coded and arranged perfectly from prep to ceremony to reception. He is touched and thanks her for all her help. She says it's "no problem" and smiles and then turns and walks out.

"Drop Dead Diva" - "Dream Big" - July 10, 2011It's a good one tonight as everyone's got fun cases and knotty personal issues.Jane takes on the case of a little person, Eli, and his mom. They want to sue the sperm bank that she got the donation from for negligence since they claimed to offer "state of the art." But when they take this case to court the judge dismisses the case because it seems like they're arguing "wrongful life." This horrifies Eli's mom who insists that he is perfect. The problem is that the medical issues associated with dwarfism are crippling them financially, she's working three jobs. Jane resolves to think of something and she does: product liability. She argues that the sperm bank should've known that there was a test for the mutated gene that causes dwarfism. The mother is again horrified that they're arguing that Eli is a "defective product." But Eli is on board, especially after he shows Jane a note that she wrote to him before he was born wishing him to grow up healthy and strong to become an astronaut or athlete or even the president. Jane takes the case back to court and the sperm bank CEO claims they didn't know about the test. Then Jane gets the bright idea to ask the lab that offers the test for its records. And therein lies the smoking gun: before Eli was conceived the sperm bank declined to buy the test from the lab because it was too expensive. The cost? $75 a test. They wanted to wait until the price came down. And, it turns out, that the CEO who claims he didn't know about the test, was the one who turned it down. The sperm bank settles for a nice big figure. While all of this is going on, Jane is leaving increasingly desperate messages for the doctor with whom she slept with on the first date. She finally leaves a strongly worded message saying she doesn't normally sleep with a guy on a first date but she thought he was different but realizes he's just an arrogant doctor with a God complex. And then he shows up on her doorstep apologizing for not calling her back but he left his phone at her house -- it fell under the bed when she took his pants off-- and then he had back to back surgeries. She goes and retrieves the phones and deletes the messages. But, of course, since he's a doctor he had to check his messages and he sweetly gives her a hard time as he takes her out on a second date.Meanwhile, Jane is also trying to juggle scheduling for Grayson's bachelor party. She planned a nice dinner but Parker hijacks the plans and decides to move the action to a strip club. The problem is Grayson was supposed to meet Vanessa's dad -- a judge-- after the dinner to ask permission to marry her. (He's old-fashioned apparently.) Grayson puts this off for the strip club and in the process meets a stripper who is having trouble breathing. She tells him the smoke machine aggravates her asthma. He advises her of her rights as an employee. The only problem with that is that the owner, Bobby Z, who is also a lawyer than advises her that she's an independent contractor not an employee and he'll do what she says. Grayson says he'll take care of it and gets a quick hearing-- and blows off his future father-in-law yet again-- and gets the stripper her rights to employee benefits. Unfortunately, this causes Bobby Z to tell her and the other strippers that if they're employees he has a right to their tips and takes them from them all. Grayson again gets a quick hearing and takes care of it again. And this time Bobby Z fires the girls and convinces other strip club owners not to hire them. One more time, Grayson gets a hearing and hauls all the owners into court for conspiracy. The judge he gets? His future father-in-law. Luckily, Vanessa's dad sides with Grayson and the strippers. And in a cute move Grayson moves to make a motion and asks for Vanessa's hand in marriage. She has shown up just for this moment and her dad lays his gavel down in approval. In the Fred and Stacy storyline, Stacy is concerned that Fred won't talk about his past. Of course, as a guardian angel he has no past. So he convinces a temp in the office-- played by Jennifer Tilly-- who is a part-time actress to pose as his mom. They all go to lunch and she acts so drunk, imperious, and loopy Stacy figures he was ashamed of her and says they never have to spend time with her again, much to his relief.Meanwhile Parker has been stalking Kim to hire her back to the firm. She keeps rebuffing him and even has other interviews and has been asking him for recommendations. He refuses to give them. Jane and Terri offer up some glowing ones, however, in an effort to stave off her return. This doesn't work though because at the end of the episode Kim shows up in Parker's office and says she'll return on two conditions: a ten percent raise and no contact between them. Parker asks if he can ask why she came back. She says he cannot.

"Drop Dead Diva" - "Prom" - July 24, 2011Stacy goes to a high school to give a modeling seminar and happens upon two teenage girls -- Nina and Julia-- who are denied a couples ticket to attend the prom together because they are gay. The principal won't talk to them and Nina's dad isn't crazy about them making waves. But, the prom is this week. Presto, Jane has a case.Jane, Stacy, and Julia go to visit the principal who is combative and tells them to buy single tickets. Except they would be seated randomly and not get couples perks like a photo, flowers, and chocolate. Jane threatens that since the school policy violates their civil rights she will go to the school superintendent if he doesn't. He says he will. But when they get outside, Julia's car has been towed, even though she parked where the security guard told her to. It was a set up by the principal: because she parked in faculty parking Julia is suspended and ineligible to go to prom. Jane is fighting mad now and says she'll see him in court. In court Jane explains the pretext for the parking violation and then the school argues that they're just worried about the girls' safety from other students. Julia points out her friends know she's a lesbian and voted her on to prom committee. The judge says she'll issue an opinion forthwith. At Jane's office the girls discover the the judge ruled in their favor...but the school's lawyer issued a statement that they're canceling prom. The girls realizes everyone's going to hate them. Jane vows to find a way to force the school to have prom and Parker tells her to drop it.He changes his tune when there's intense media interest and he can go on TV and pimp himself as a humanitarian. At their next round in court. The school's lawyer brings up DOMA and says that allowing a sex same couple at the prom "violates the spirit" of the law. Although the judge isn't buying this she says Jane and Parker didn't prove irreparable harm and they got no case. But she says they do have a civil rights case which she'll rule on next month... after prom. The judge says she didn't go to prom and she lived. The principal arrives at Jane's office with an offer: a couples ticket in exchange for dropping the civil rights case. The girls realize if they take the deal it won't help the kids coming after them. They decline, righteously, and Nina's dad supports her. While all of this is going on, Jane discovers that doctor Bill -- who has a crazy schedule and is in constant demand by patients dictating their odd dating schedule-- is dating other women. She tried to act cool with it, pretend she was dating others too, but it turns out she isn't. Grayson tells her she deserves better and the doctor is an idiot for not wanting to commit to her.Jane throws a big party/replacement prom for the kids since the girls declined the ticket. Julia and Nina arrive. As does Bill. She comes clean that she's not cool with him dating others. She wants to be his only girl. He says okay but he isn't a race to the finish line. She says she feels like she's competing for his attention and she deserves better. He asks if she's breaking up with him at prom. She says she is. They say their goodbyes. Also while all of this was going on Jane was up for her performance review from Parker. He tells her she's too emotionally involved in her cases and spends too much time with her friends. But when all is said and done he apologizes, realizing that it was Stacy that brought them the great same sex prom case and Jane's emotions that kept her going on the case. He tells her to keep up the good work.Meanwhile, Grayson busies himself with the case of Hank the bailiff whose wife left him after two months. She was a mail order bride essentially that cost him six grand. During their meeting Kim interrupts with an envelope from Vanessa: it's her engagement ring. Seeing how distraught he is Kim decides to pitch in. Hank explains he wants his money back from the website, the six grand, and the four grand he spent on the engagement ring. Kim says there's no case. Grayson, obviously still wounded after being jilted by Vanessa, thinks there is.In court Grayson argues that Hank deserves money from the website because they arranged to have his heart broken and wallet stolen. The website argues that the women are vetted and and that the divorce rate in the U.S. is 52% and it's only 10% for the website-arranged marriages. The judge dismisses the case. Grayson wants to figure out the next move. Kim says there isn't one. They decide to sue the Russian bride herself, Irina, instead. In court Irina claims she loved Hank and caught up in the excitement of getting married and she simply had a change of heart. Channeling his own rage Grayson shouts at her that she didn't even apologize and that she left without saying goodbye! (Like Vanessa). Plus, Irina broke up with Hank by text. She gives what seems like a sincere apology saying she never meant to hurt him. Outside court Hank is glad she apologized. But Grayson points out that can't prove Irina set out to deceive Hank. He's about to throw in the towel when Kim comes bustling out and calls Irina a fraud with a classic tell. She wants to run a full background check.Turns out Irina was married before: for two months. They want to establish a predatory pattern. They bring in the ex who claims he left her not the other way around and that she didn't run up any bills on him or abscond with any money. She even gave back the engagement ring. Things change when they put the ex on the stand, however. They ask about him being unemployed and then pull out a recent deposit for the exact amount of the engagement ring Hank gave Irina. Grayson and Parker figures out that Irina and the ex figured out a plan to make some money by scamming other lonely dudes using the mail-order bride website. The DA is pressing charges against Irina and the ex.Back at the office, even after the win, Grayson still sad. Kim says there's no closure for him like there was for Hank. He doesn't want to talk about it. Kim wants to role play and have him yell at her as if she's Vanessa. He doesn't want to do it. She baits him and asks him to yell at her, instead he kisses her. And then says it wasn't meant for her. Apparently he doesn't want to yell at Vanessa, he wants to kiss her.In the night's final storyline Fred and Stacy are approached in a cafe by a casting agent. Stacy of course thinks the agent is after her but it's Fred he wants for a commercial for a product called "adrenaline rush." Fred hurts Stacy feelings by saying he didn't realize it was so easy to get an acting job in this town. More hurt that Fred thinks acting is easy she gets him a book called "Acting: It's Harder Than it Looks." He then gets all engrossed in the book and pretentious which annoys her even further. He apologizes for being insensitive and he offers to cancel on the commercial but she tells him to do it. When Fred goes to film commercial he realizes he's not the star after all. He's the "before" guy the one who drinks the "adrenaline rush" and becomes the hunky "after" dude, obviously played by someone else. He quits saying he's not a good enough actor to play a "loser"-- until the casting director laments that his bikini babe also quit and Stacy offers herself, handily ripping off her dress to reveal a bikini underneath. Now they're both actors!

He tells her about the case she's working on, the Elena Estrada murder, which he says she should remember. As he's leaving he tells her he's glad she's back. Parker sees Kim kissing a guy outside the office and is a bit frazzled.Fred asks Kim why she's suing his girlfriend Stacy for blogging. Kim tells him she's most intrigued by how Stacy can afford the high-priced items she talks about buying in her videos. Fred tells her Stacy gets all the stuff for free from the companies, then video blogs about them. Kim tells Fred that his girlfriend broke the law "and now she's going to pay."Back at the DA's office, Jane asks Alan for a refresher on the Estrada case. It's settled.Jane and Alan are questioning a gardener who's suspected in Elena's murder. He says she was a good friend to him and he would never hurt her. When he mentions that she was knitting him a scarf, Jane gets an idea. She remembers a surveillance photo of Elena knitting a scarf and she's only a few rows in, but the scarf found with Elena's body was more than 125 rows done, which means more time elapsed from the bus routes start to finish than the prosecutors had thought. It means she got off the bus at some point, and that the gardener is innocent.Alan says the case is cold again. He starts asking Jane about why she left and she says that part of her life "is a blur." He asks her out to dinner. She agrees.Stacy is video blogging -- recommending against a pair of denim shorts -- when Jane gets home after being out all night. She says she had a great night and she and Alan talked a lot. And he offered her a job. It's bad pay, no benefits, no car and not much of anything else, but Jane is thinking about it because being a DA feels more important.Fred tells Teri that Parker is pressing him for information about who Kim is dating. He doesn't know, but Teri tells him that even if he did he couldn't break the assistant's oath to keep all the boss' secrets. When Parker comes asking for info, Teri says she can find out -- because Kim is not her boss. She tells Parker that for two box seats to the "Grease" sing-along at the Bowl, she'll give him "every dirty detail.""Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee," Parker replies.Elena's mom sees Jane in front of the DA's office and asks her what will happen now that Granado is innocent. She hands Jane another picture of Elena, to encourage her to keep digging on Elena's case.Teri brings Jane some information about Patricia Martin, a witness who was about to blow the Estrada case wide open and, according to the records, never met with Jane or Alan. Teri has arrange for Patricia Martin to meet Jane.Pacific Holdings, the company that's been sending Stacy all the free stuff for her video blog, wants her to take down the blog now that she's slamming their products on her video blog. Stacy refuses, to Grayson's chagrin. Stacy leaves, telling the Pacific Holdings CEO, "We will see you in court."Patricia tells Jane about being in an AA meeting where a guy said he had a dream he killed someone. She said the details were too close to the news story. She says Nathan Persky was the man's name. Jane asks why Patricia she never met with Alan. Patricia says she did meet with Alan eight years ago and told him then everything she'd just told Jane.Jane tells Parker about how Alan buried the case when he learned Persky was the likely killer and Parker explains that Nathan Persky's dad is one of the most influential men in L.A. Jane says she's going to do something. Parker advises her to take down big game with her first shot.In court, Pacific Holdings wins the injunction, based on a letter that was sent with some of the free items, telling Stacy, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." The implied endorsement is enough to seal the judge's decision.Teri tells Parker all the details about Kim's new man. He's a public interest lawyer named Andrew who's married. Parker heads right to Kim's office and tells her that Andrew is married. Kim is upset that Parker's spying on her and she claims she knew Andrew was married. She tells him not to meddle in her personal life again.Jane has Nathan in an interview room and tells him she thinks he killed Elena Estrada. She tells him the guilt must have gotten to him after all these years and that's when Nathan's father and Alan burst into the room. Alan asks Jane what she's doing and Nathan's father tells him not to say anything without an attorney present. Nathan breaks down, telling his dad to shut up and admitting that he can't lie anymore. He says he did. "I killed Elena."Jane then gets a chance to confront Alan about covering up his interview with Patricia. He says he wasn't going to believe her testimony over Warren Persky's (Nathan's father). Teri tells Jane Nathan is about to sign his confession and as Jane watches him do it she realizes Nathan is innocent. She tells Alan this.Kim meets Andrew outside and tells him she knows he's married. He stammers and she takes his coffee from his hand and pours it all over his shoes, telling him, "If I hear from you again, I'm calling your wife."Back at the DA's office, Jane explains that she played a victim in a slasher movie and because she knows which way a slasher would strike depending on whether he was right or left handed, she knows Nathan didn't do it because he signed his confession with his right hand. That still leaves open the question of how he knew so much detail and why he'd take the fall for it.Stacy's packing up all of the freebies Pacific Holdings provided her. Fred comes home and tells Stacy about the movement online from her followers who want her to be saved.Jane interviews Nathan again, asking him to recount the night of Elena's death. He said he was really drunk and hid in the pool house, and the next thing he knew, he was standing over her body. He says he remembers the screaming and the machete and the slashing, but "it feels like a dream." Jane tells him she doesn't think he killed her. She thinks his father did. He's left-handed.The Pacific Holdings CEO is back in the office, happy because the items that she likes are selling very well. They'll let her blog again and will link directly to it, calling it their own in-house Consumer Reports. Stacy's thrilled.Jane tells Parker about Persky, and she says there were signs of attempted sexual assault. "And no one says not to Warren Persky," she says.Alan comes back and Jane tells him she saw what he was capable of and that's why she left. She tells him he built his career by looking the other way, and tells him that if he doesn't hand in his resignation, she'll make sure the truth comes out.Elena's mother thanks Jane for not giving up after Jane explains to her that this time she "saw the case through different eyes."At the bar that night, Stacy and Jane are celebrating with cocktails when Parker and Grayson show up ready to get "drunk and drunker." Grayson explains that Parker is officially over Kim, "and I am moving on from what's her face -- you know, the girl who left me at the altar."Jane watches as Grayson and Parker go and chat up a couple of hotties. She tells Stacy that part of her always holds out hope. Stacy calls the bartender and asks for "a Manhattan, splash of Sprite, two cherries" and asks him to send it to Grayson, saying, "It's from someone in his past." Stacy knows that's Deb's special drink with Grayson and no one else knows it. They watch as Grayson gets the drink and looks around confused. Stacy tells Jane that even if Grayson goes home with one of those hotties, he'll be thinking about her.

Jane is excited because she (Deb) got a solo shot in a full-page print ad for a casino. She says a photographer named Javier must have sold the photo to the casino. She thinks Grayson is going to love it. Stacy is worried that Fred thinks of her as his mother, after Jane remarks that the note Stacy is about to pack in Fred's lunch is just like what her mom used to do.At the office, Grayson has seen the ad and isn't pleased. He says its' demeaning and the casino didn't have permission to use the photo and he's going to fight it. Jane flashes back to her life as Deb, when Grayson was marking up her contract with Javier, which granted him perpetual rights -- meaning he owns all of her pictures forever.Jane sees her (Deb's) mom in the office and is about to go say hi when Teri pulls her aside and shows her that her (Jane's) mom has been arrested after sliding down an airplane's emergency slide at the airport and delaying flights. Jane has to head to the police department to get her.Jane's mom says passengers were trapped on the plane for over six hours, so she wanted out. She mentions as an aside that her father went to Mexico for a vacation while she was heading to Branson, Mo. She's facing several federal charges. She gets bail set at $10,000.Grayson asks Deb's mom to sue the casino. He can't do it himself because he and Deb were never married. She agrees and Parker comes into their office and has a long, gazing encounter with Deb's mom.Fred's down because Stacy yelled at him about not being his mother and gets some advice from Kim. She tells him to be his own man, and to get some contract work done by lunch or hire her a new assistant.Jane gets her mom out of jail and says she has to leave because there's someone at the office she wants to see. Jane walks in while Deb's mom and Grayson are talking to the casino's lawyer, who says Grayson's argument has no merit because they bought the photos from the photographer, who had a standard rights contract from Deb. Jane flashes back to her life as Deb and a conversation with Stacy about how she can't give Javier the marked-up version of the contract Grayson worked on because he'd replace her. Stacy suggested she white out all of Grayson's marks and she did. Deb also initialed each whited out mark. The casino's lawyer leaves and says the ad tested so well it's going to be the centerpiece of its ad campaign. That night, Stacy asks Fred to do him a favor and he says he can't because he's watching a documentary on beer. He goes on to tell her he's losing himself in the relationship and, quoting Kim's advice, that he's not just a satellite revolving around Planet Stacy. She suggests he get his own place, and he says he might.Jane's mom is being interviewed by Nancy Grace, where she lists several past arrests -- much to Jane's chagrin. Elaine mentions to Nancy Grace that her daughter is her lawyer, and mentions to any men watching that her daughter is single.Stacy is upset that Fred left and Jane tells her she might have given him mixed messages about acting like a boy then being upset when he started to act like a man. Stacy says she'll put a note in his lunch with a very clear message.Kim finds Fred sleeping on the couch in her office. She kicks him out, but he tells her that if he's going to follow her advice he needs her support. She tells him she has a client who needs a house sitter for six months.Teri gives Jane the witness list for her mom's case, which includes seven of the flight attendants from the plane. One is missing, and Jane wants to know why. Meanwhile, she's noticed Deb's mom in Grayson's office and drops in. Grayson says they're changing their strategy, noting that Deb's contract prohibited significant alterations or manipulations to Deb's photos. The ad changed the color of her dress, added earrings and whitened her teeth.Outside of Grayson's office, Jane pulls Bobbi (Deb's mom) aside and asks whether she thinks Deb would've had a problem with the ad. Bobbi says she can't help but back Grayson, who loved Deb and wants to keep her memory alive. Bobbi then leaves for lunch with Parker, telling Jane that they also had dinner together the night before.Stacy shows up at the office with lunch for Fred, but Kim takes some pleasure in telling her Fred's out looking at a new place. In court, Elaine recounts how she stepped up as a leader when their plane wasn't leaving. She says the plane was a "boiling tea kettle" and it was a matter of life and death that she let people out. On cross examination, the opposing lawyer tells Elaine that the force behind the slide when it deployed could have killed a baggage worker below. He also notes her work on the "talk-show circuit."Elaine is upset with Jane for failing to prepare her for the tough questions, and thinks Jane is spending too much time with "Barbie."Stacy tells Jane she's worried she's lost Fred, but Jane tells her to love him for the man he is. Jane then tells Stacy that she's going to send the casino's lawyer an anonymous email with all the pointers on how to counter Grayson's points.Teri tells Jane about the missing flight attendant. She claimed to be in Florida visiting her mother, but Teri did some digging and found out her mother is dead. Jane meets the flight attendant for lunch. She's worried about losing her job if she testifies on Elaine's behalf, but explains that this was the worst delay she's experienced. She then gives Jane the rundown on how the airline skirted new regulations about delays on the tarmac. She then explains how her Jane's mom helped keep everyone calm during the delay. In court, the casino's attorney finishes all of Grayson's sentences as he makes his arguments.Jane gets in trouble with the judge as she asks leading questions to try to get an airline official to own up to shady practices.Stacy, meanwhile, goes to the house where Fred was supposed to be staying and the owner says the house sitting arrangement didn't work with Fred because he wanted a 30-day commitment and Fred said that was too long to be away from the woman "who completes him." Stacy's giddy.Jane runs into Grayson, who's bummed because the casino's attorney seemed so well prepared. He says he's going to try another approach the next day or keep filing motions until they get sick of him. Bobbi sees Jane staring at the ad and says Deb "would have loved it. " Bobbi tells Jane she's noticed how Jane winces when Bobbi mentions going out with Parker. She wants to know if there's anything she needs to know about him. Jane tells her that Parker has broken more than a few hearts. Bobbi says she might still want to go out with him and Jane says she doesn't need her permission.Fred's asleep on Kim's couch again and Stacy walks in. She tells him she wants him back. He's back.Jane visits Grayson's office and tells him she might know why Deb didn't use his changes on the contract. She suggests to Grayson that Deb would ultimately want him to hold his advice and tell her she's doing fine.Elaine apologizes to Jane for accusing her of ignoring her. Jane agrees that she should call more often. Elaine says she's just scared of going to jail -- or Canada. Elaine says no one could know what it was like on the plane unless you were there. Jane gets an idea.Jane has had the jury box rearranged to replicate what it's like to sit on a plane. She's added heaters and sound effects to give them the impression of what it was like, and asks them how many of them would pull a lever that was marked "Emergency Exit." They all raise their hands. At a celebration for Elaine's courtroom win, there is karaoke. Bobbi tells Elaine how lucky she is to have a daughter like Jane. Elaine puts in a song to sing with Jane, and Bobbi mentions that her daughter never sang with her -- because she had a terrible voice. Jane contains herself, then Elaine invites Bobbi to sing "Lean on Me" with them.Grayson pulls Jane aside to show her something outside. It's a big billboard ad for the casino with Deb's picture on it. He tells her he was trying to bully Deb, but Jane tells him he was just trying to protect her in his own way. She then explains that Deb not telling him about how she didn't use his contract was her way of trying to protect him. He puts his arm around Jane and tells her she's "pretty amazing."

"Drop Dead Diva" - "He Said, She Said" - August 14, 2011Two cases tonight, one serious and one that seems silly and then turns serious. In the first, Jane takes on the case of a college cheerleader named Mia. Mia claims she was raped by the quarterback of the Hammond University football team. She went to health services and campus security but, since the rape kit was inconclusive and the university likes to protect football players, her case was closed. LAPD agreed it was a he said, she said situation and didn't take it any further. To get payback Mia and her friend Allie kidnap Vince, tie him to a motel room bed and force him to confess on camera. Jane tells them the tape won't be admissible in court and they will be arrested. They are and the University/Vince's lawyer comes to them and says they'll drop the charges against the girls if they turn over the tape and don't pursue civil charges against Vince.Jane decides to pursue charges against the school instead. Grayson is incensed that she's suing his alma mater. She is incensed that his school pride is clouding his judgement in a rape case. They have a row right in the middle of the office. In court, the campus police admit that Mia's state after what happened with Vince was consistent with rape but since the evidence was inconclusive they dropped it. Jane gets him to admit that Vince has been spoken to by the campus security several times for drunkeness, robbery, and harassment but has never been arrested.Allie testifies about the night Vince allegedly raped Mia and talks about the rock star treatment the football players get. The opposing counsel gets her to admit she hooked up with Vince on Valentine's day and was mad he never called her again. She says she's not holding a grudge but standing up for her friend. They discover that Vince was an avid Twitterer and jackass. Terri looks at Vince's tweets and notices that some are simply numbers and that they happened around the time of the rape and his hook-up with Allie. They figure out that he's keeping count of sexual conquests on Twitter. Clicking on the link brings the to an impenetrable site. As they're working this out Jane-- as instructed by Parker-- goes to apologize to Grayson about the fight but is incensed that Grayson is meeting with opposing counsel behind her back. He later explains that he wasn't talking to him behind the back. The lawyer had come to convince Grayson to convince Jane to stop, which made him realize that Vince has something to hide. He says there's a difference between school spirit and blind allegiance, and he wants her to know that. He offers to join her as second chair. In court, Mia takes the stand and describes the night and the rape. It's awfulWorking on the link again Terri and Fred discover an easter egg that takes surfers to a hidden link and a password-protected site. Terri gets a subpoena and discover that the site has pictures and video links to all of Vince's conquests including Mia. Unfortunately, the hard drive has been wiped clean. But when Vince takes the stand Grayson tells Vince that the school has a back-up server and all of his stuff is still on their. He panics. They have someone log into the server. But before they play the video Vince admits that he was told by the lawyer that everything on his computer would all be taken care of. Jane and Grayson score! The school offers Mia a settlement, offers to change it's date rape investigation policies, and Vince and the lawyer will be charged in criminal court. In the night's other case Kim's crazy sister Jenna- played by Kathy Griffin-- blows in with divorce drama. She wants to reverse her binding arbitration with her husband Doug and since he's remarrying in a week she knows she has leverage. At issue, an antique clock that she claims she must have to go to sleep. Doug balks saying it's a family heirloom. They go back and forth until ultimately, claiming his fiance convinced him, Doug gives up the clock.Jenna arrives excited and busts the clock open. She pulls out a small black bag and shows Kim what she was really after: uncut diamonds. Turns out that Doug's grandmother stored them in the clock and told Jenna about it. Jenna says she wants to ensure a bright future for her and Doug's daughter Ella. Now she has a safety net.Kim smells something fishy though and goes to visit Doug and return the clock. He's surprised to see her. She calls his bluff: she knows he knew about the diamonds because what Jenna showed her was quartz. Kim knows he switched them and then protested about the clock so it would look legit. He shows her the real diamonds. Kim says that all Doug and Jenna want is to secure Ella's financial future so she has drawn up a trust giving Ella possession of the diamonds when she turns 18. One day Jenna may be mad but now Ella's future is safe.In the night's final storyline Jane accidentally walks in on Bobbie and Parker getting it on in his office. She goes to have a scream on the balcony. Fred joins her and she tells him that it's too much for her that Parker is doing her mom. Fred points out it's Deb's mom.Bobbie later comes to visit Jane in her office, which is odd, of course, for Jane. Bobbie confesses that no one is more surprised then her that it's going well with Parker and that she really likes him. Jane says she's really happy for her and it's clear that Deb means it.Later when Jane tells Stacy about Bobbie. Stacy tells her to protect Bobbie by having Bobbie dump him first, by telling her something that's a dealbreaker. Jane figures it out. She tells Bobbie that Parker loves to hunt:, bunnies and raccoons and Bambi and that she thought she should know. Bobbie says it's too bad and she has to go.Later as Grayson and Jane celebrate their win in the rape case, Bobbie arrives and announces she broke up with Parker. She admits she knew Jane was giving her a heads up, offering her the pre-emptive break up option, something she practically invented. She wonders if Deb would've been appalled. Jane says she would've been happy that Bobbie was happy. Bobbie asks Jane if she's sure she didn't know Deb. Grayson, Jane and Bobbie toast to Deb.

"Drop Dead Diva" - "You Bet Your Life" - August 21, 2011Jane thinks Grayson is depressed so she asks Fred to take him out for a night on the town.Fred tries to entice Grayson out to hit the bar and watch "the big game." Grayson asks what game and catches Fred not knowing what the "big game" is but agrees to go anyway. At the bar Grayson and Fred watch the big (ping-pong) game and struggle for conversation. Grayson gets to talking about Deb a bit since the bar waitress Cassie knew her. Grayson starts hitting on her. Fred calls Jane who is freaked about Cassie-- with the tramp stamp--and tells Fred to stop it. Too late, Cassie has invited Grayson to an after hours club and he's ditching Fred to do it.Jane comes into the office for an update and Fred says, truthfully, that after he hung up with Jane he didn't see Cassie for the rest of the night. Parker blows his cover and says he heard about Cassie with the tramp stamp and that Grayson is a whole new man. Jane is not pleased.Jane asks Grayson about his night. He says he's seeing Cassie again tonight. He says she's fun. She arrives to pick him up. Jane is not pleased.Later, Cassie picks up Grayson and Jane is sad. She tells Fred that she and Cassie were a lot alike and she wonders if she thinks Grayson can do better than Cassie does that mean that he could've done better than Deb? Fred says they've both changed and there's no reason not to set the bar higher. Speaking of bars, Fred is off to the bar with Teri to learn more about being a man.Parker meets Kim at a house in the country for a custody case. It turns out the battle is over an incredibly rare and really huge plant, with the world's largest flower.Dr. Foley owns the plant and calls it Louis XV and says she loves it and says he loves her and you can tell by how big he's grown. The L.A. Metropolitan, where she was a botanist, wants the plant now that the plant's "father" Louis XIV is dead. She says the head of the museum gave her permission to grow the plant from the original but now the director is dead and there's no record of the permission.Back at the office Kim calls Dr. Foley a whackjob in love with a plant but Parker wants to go with it and find record of the permission. In court, Parker tries to say that knowledge of the plant is de facto consent on the part of the museum since folks from the museum were at her house and knew it existed. This doesn't wash. Teri couldn't find any permission from the late museum director in the files but does find notes from the EPA. She has Dr. Foley testify that the EPA has mandates of care when it comes to endangered species like her Louis. So, Kim decides that what they'll do is show that Dr. Foley is taking better care of the plant than the museum could. The judge agrees to hear the arguments.Parker and Kim work on research for the plant lady. They decide to go with a love angle: it's weird but, a plant would never leave you, cheat on you, or kiss someone and blow it out of proportion, or hit on you even after they asked you to hit on them.. and then it gets all personal and they start getting a little closer and Kim breaks it off.In the judge's chambers Parker and Kim point out that the museum's plant died of neglect. That will never happen with Dr. Foley, plus she's created a living trust to provide for its care after she dies. Kim argues that Dr. Foley loves this plant and what better reason to let her have it considering the museum has demonstrated it didn't love it's plant.Teri finds Kim waiting for a ruling and shows her board minutes from the museum's latest meeting. The museum planned to sell their plant to a place in Singapore which is why they're after Dr. Foley's plant. Kim brings minutes of the meeting to the judge. The judge says the matter is settled and Louis will stay with Dr. Foley. She is thrilled and can't wait to tell Louis in person. The next day Teri calls and wakes up Parker to say the police are after Dr. Foley. Turns out that the museum's plant didn't die of natural causes but, it looks like Dr. Foley sabotaged it. He says he'll grab Kim and head over. He rolls over to grab Kim. Looks like they spent the night together. They go to Dr. Foley's house and she's gone. The museum director says Kim and Parker were played. The Singapore museum called and said they gave Dr. Foley a six figure deal. She killed the museum plant so she could make a killing on hers. So much for love, says Kim.Stacy has brought in a client for Jane, her sorority sister Kristin who is a prickly pear of a woman. Kristin's problem is she lost $50,000 at a casino. She says she'd never have been in the casino if they hadn't offered her a free spa day. Once she was there she blames them for making her gamble all her money away, she has "scientific proof" of the "environment of intoxication." Jane doesn't want to take the case because, frankly it's ridiculous and Kristin was really mean to Deb (Jane) in college in the sorority and took away her pin. She pulls Stacy aside and tells her she doesn't want the case. But Stacy says she thinks Kristin is sad and she still lives in the sorority house. Jane agrees she's only taking the case for the Stacy. In court, Jane argues that the casino encouraged her to drink and therefore are responsible for Kristin's losses. On the security tape she shows Kristin falling down drunk and says that the casino should've cut her off. The casino doctor says her BAC was .04% which is well below the legal level of intoxication. Jane tries to argue that alcohol combined with the lights, sounds, and oxygenated air that there was an "environment of intoxication." The doctor gives her a "maybe." The judge allows her to proceed.Stacy and Kristin think they won but Jane points out that this is just the beginning. In her research Jane finds trace amount of amphetamines in Kristin's system which is bad for her case. Stacy comes in to announce that Kristin is back at the casino and sounds really out of it.At the casino Kristin says she doesn't know what happened, she went to run an errand and found herself at the casino. They confront her about drugs. She says she's never done drugs and can't explain the amphetamines in her system. She admits she has Parkinson's disease and they realize that the medicine for that may have broken down into amphetamines in her system. Kristin says she never told them because she's a control freak and lately, especially when she's tired, it's like she doesn't even know her own body which must sound crazy to them. (If she only knew). A security guy comes over to say hi, saying he helped Kristin up when she fell. Only problem is, in the security video they saw a woman helped her up. Jane spies all the ceiling cameras and says they'll get to the bottom of it.Jane finagles more security footage and they see video of the casino employees leading Kristin back to the slots when she had already fallen down and then bringing over a credit card machine to give her a credit extension. It is shameless.Parker, bringing in a bunch of boxes for Jane asks if she's getting in over her head with the casino case. She says she isn't. She says she's filing a class-action suit. He doesn't like this and how much it will cost. She says it won't be that expensive.Fred, Kristin, Stacy, and Jane work all night to send out stuff to the mailing list of the casino to find people to bring into the class action suit. Kristin brings up Deb and Jane says she thought Kristin didn't like Deb. But Kristin says she actually protected Deb in the sorority. During the mailing list work they find an odd link to a hospital parking lot where Kristin volunteered for a Parkinson's study. Jane doesn't know how yet, but figures this is where their smoking gun lays.Jane and the gang go to visit the Parkinson's doctor from the hospital study. He gives them proof that a side effect of the Parkinson's medication could've led to compulsive gambling. She wonders how the casino got the list of patients. The doctor says he doesn't know how. On the wall, however, Stacy notices a picture of the doctor fromo the casino.Jane puts him back on the stand. He says the gambling addiction is public knowledge about the side effect of the medication. She says the client list was confidential though right? It was and she points out that he got a $50,000 bonus two weeks after the Parkinson's client mailing list went out.Jane informs Stacy and Kristin that the evil doctor is going before the medical board and the casino is forgiving Kristin's debt. Kristin gives Jane an honorary sorority pin. They hug.In the ending montage, Grayson and Cassie laugh on their date: Fred and Teri watch the game and drink; Kim brings Parker a plant and they kiss; Jane puts on her sorority pin and sees Deb's face smiling back at her in the mirror.

We open with a pre-recorded bit, in which Jane Lynch sits down with the faux-President of Television, Leonard Nimoy, who tells her that men find her woman-ish and women find her man-ish. (Alec Baldwin had taped this, but quit when Fox cut a News Corp joke. It's hard not to think Baldwin's comedic timing might have served the bit better than Nimoy's.)Leonard reminds her not to let the audience know that all the stars all live together in a tiny apartment building, which he reveals behind the curtain. Yes, it's weird.
Then it's time for the song, about the magic of television as Jane wanders through.Jeremy Piven and "Lloyd" (Rex Lee) join for a few dance moves, after which Piven wonders what he's doing. "I'm not even on anymore!"
Jane sings about TV crime shows and we see Kevin Nealon, then Eric Dane from "Grey's Anatomy" as she sings about patients being cured in a week.
Jane next wanders into "The Big Bang Theory", then by Marcel from "Top Chef", Randy Jackson from "American Idol," the boys from "Myth Busters" and up to Ron from "Parks and Rec" who tells her to stop singing."I know this seems stupid and shlocky, and already seems overly long, but it's the Emmys, c'mon! Get on board," Jane tells him.And then she sings some more, not taking her own analysis to heart, walking by Andy Richter and the cast of "Mad Men". She tells them about the future, including that people can watch TV on their phones and fast forward through commercials. Don Draper kicks her out. There's a line about on TV high school students look roughly 24 as she walks by a few "Friday Night Lights"ers in a locker room. Then it's Jane into a rally hosted by her "Glee" alter-ego, Sue Sylvester, whom she promptly slushies. Then we're into the auditorium, where the number continues, as Jane sings about TV as a vast wonderland. ("Except for HBO, it's not TV")The dancers lift her in the air for the big finish. "Try doing that in triple-Spanx," she says.
She surveys the audience, picking out her "nodding friends," and noting that "Jon Hamm and I are at 'finger-pistols'."Jane introduces "The Emmy Tones," some actors she roped into joining her, including Zachary Levi, Cobie Smulders, Taraji Henson, Kate Flannery, Wilmer Valderrama and Joel McHale, presumably friends she had some dirt on.
They sing to introduce the first comedy category. The audience doesn't seem to know what to do with it, but at least is happy to know what Wilmer Valderrama is up to.We see seconds-long clips from a slew of shows, then it's on to Jimmys Fallon and Kimmel.Kimmel congratulates Fallon on his nomination, then asks if he wrote a speech. Fallon says no, because they all know Jon Stewart is going to win. Kimmel then tackles him him to the ground, wresting the prepared speech from his pocket. It contains "notes to self" such as crying on cue and holding the statue like it's the "Lion King" baby.On to best supporting actress in a comedy, Jane Lynch's category.
Julie Bowen from "Modern Family" wins."I don't know what I'm going to talk about next week in therapy now," she says, struggling to compose herself.Juliana Margulies is out next to present "Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy", deadpanning that she's the funniest woman in TV. She thanks the cast and her own mother, saying it doesn't matter how old you get, you always need your "mum."Jane comes back, noting that so many movies stars are doing TV these days that TV stars have to go do voices for video games, which are then made into movies, staring the very people who are putting the TV stars out of work in the first place. "Hakuna matata, my friends. That's the circle of life," she says.Out next is Don Cheadle, for Outstanding Mini-Series or Movie.

"'Modern Family' was this close to being animated, that's how much we didn't want to work with kids," he says, before praising them.He also mentions a gay couple who approached them on location last year and thanked them for teaching people tolerance. Levitan says they are doing that. "We are showing the world that there is absolutely nothing wrong with a loving committed relationship between an old man and a hot young woman, and looking around this room tonight I see many of you agree," he says."Thank you all very, very much," he says.Jane comes back to sign off, with the Emmy Tones, who can at least be glad their faces were never shown in close-up.

"Drop Dead Diva" - "Change of Heart" - Sept. 25, 2011The episode opens with a musical sequence with Jane singing "Mambo Italiano" with a bunch of hot dancers. This will be important later in this very turbulent episode.First up, Parker, Kim and Elisa. Parker apologizes in the office to Elisa about kissing her the previous evening. Elisa says she remembers kissing him first and gives him a sly smile. Kim comes in and asks to speak to Parker. She apologizes for overreacting at dinner. He says she may have been right since he does have unresolved feelings for Elisa. Kim says she doesn't care what she really wants is to be partner and she essentially says she gets it or she's leaving and taking clients with her. Parker says he has to think about it.Later, he brings a coffee drink to Elisa but she's not at her desk. Fred says he heard she went to the emergency room. So Parker heads over and it turns out it's her son Eric that's been hurt, breaking his arm while skateboarding. When Eric informs Parker that he's Elisa's son, he does the math in his head and is totally freaked out. Just then Elisa walks in. They go into the hallway and Parker basically yells at her and then storms away before she can really say anything. When she comes to his office later, he yells at her again and says it's clear what she wanted all along and tries to shove a check at her saying "that oughta cover it." Offended and in tears, she leaves. Later, when Kim arrives asking after the partner agreement and he's drunk. He explains what he did and how he acted and asks what he should do. She says you don't get many chances to make things right and to fix it. He discovers that Elisa has taken Eric to Chicago. He tells Kim he's going after them and that she's in charge while he's gone because, yup, she's a partner now and she earned it.In tonight's main legal case Jane takes up the cause of a death row inmate who wants to donate his heart to his dying sister who needs it. First, Jane and Kim have to convince the sister to take it. Once they do, they have to convince a judge to change the lethal injection procedure so the drugs won't kill the heart. They try to go for cruel and unusual punishment on the basis of a previously botched execution at the prison but the judge doesn't rule in their favor. Jane gets a call that the inmate wants her to be there to witness the execution. As she and Kim try to come up with another plan, the sister collapses and they're told that she needs a heart right now. Jane and Kim head to the prison for the execution and learn that the inmate hanged himsef-- he found a way around the system. But since he's only brain dead and his heart's still beating the heartless warden says he's still his prisoner and won't release the body. Jane and Kim go back to the judge and get him to release the body on a technicality that Teri discovered early on in the episode. The body is released and the sister gets the heart. The other legal case is Stacy's assault of her co-star Brian. Everyone feels bad about not taking her calls from jail but Grayson did and bails her out. He tells her since she's a first time offender she will get off no problem and already made an agreement with the DA.But it turns out she's not a first-timer. She pled guilty to breaking into Deidre Hall's house, the star of "Days of Our Lives." It turns out that, even though she did the time-- a month of community service-- she didn't do the crime. She was actually covering for Deb who broke into Hall's house as a weird way to prepare for an audition she had for the soap. Grayson and Stacy want to reopen the case, but if they do video of a young blond in Hall's house will be admitted and if she's found guilty she could do time because it turns out Deb stole a pair of Hall's boots. Jane admits that she did it out of panic because she tripped an alarm and heard the police coming and couldn't get the boots off. She and Stacy make up, Stacy apologizes for acting like a diva. She also apologizes to Fred, who overhears her telling Teri how much she loves and misses him.Grayson and Stacy find the boots in question and call Hall as a witness. She IDs the boots as hers and when its proven that the size 6 boots couldn't fit on Stacy's size 8 feet the case is dismissed. In their elation at getting the news Stacy and Grayson kiss. He pulls back and apologizes and says that hanging with her on the case reminded him so much of Deb and Stacy says she's not Deb... but Jane is. Grayson is understandably confused. Complicating matters is the fact that Jane saw them kissing and takes off without their knowledge.Prior to this, Owen the judge informed Jane that he was invited to sail on the America's Cup yacht and he was leaving the next day to train for a year in New Zealand. He asked her to come but she, sadly, declined saying her life was in L.A.So when she shows up at LAX he's excited that she's changed her mind. But she hasn't she just came to tell him that his story inspired her to follow her dream: to drop everything and move to Italy. Her flight for Milan is boarding. They say a sweet goodbye and she heads to her plane. At the gate she encounters Fred-- Teri told him where she was-- who is bursting with good news. He is going to propose to Stacy. Jane breaks the news that she saw Stacy and Grayson kissing. Heartbroken again he asks what he should do. She points to the departure monitor and says there's a whole world out there waiting for him to explore and boards her plane. Just as the doors are shutting Grayson shows up but isn't allowed on the plane. As we see Jane settle in we hear a man ask if the seat next to her is taken. It's Owen. He says he can sail a boat anytime but how many chances will he have to run off to Italy with Jane? If it's okay with her he wants to tag along. She says it's more than okay and they clasp hands for take off.

"Drop Dead Diva" - "Home" - June 10, 2012
Jane has a dream that she's in the hospital and Owen and Grayson are surgeons fighting over who gets to operate on her. Stacy thinks this means that Jane is in transition. Jane says she's not really thinking of Grayson anymore. Stacy spills that Grayson is thinking about her and maybe connecting the dots between her and Deb. Jane thinks this is silly since Grayson isn't that kind of person, too rational for that nonsense.
Janes heads to the office and Luke follows her on a Segway through the office. Jane complains that Stacy doesn't remember Fred. Luke floats the notion of living with her a la Fred but Jane won't have it.
And then the night's storylines begin:
In Kim's storyline she takes the case of her own father, who is played by "Cheers" actor John Ratzenberger. He plays a former janitor who has decided to squat in the Bel Air mansion of his former boss at an insurance company after his retirement plan settlement was scuttled. He hasn't been much of a presence in Kim's life but she takes on his case. Parker pitches in, partially because he's come to realize how important family is after chasing after his ex-girlfriend and son and not finding them in Chicago. Ultimately, after the Kim and Parker uncover evidence that the CEO of the insurance company used company funds to furnish his own many mansions her dad gets his retirement settlement check and the CEO will be forced to use his personal fortune to reimburse the other employees who lost their retirement funds.
In Stacy's storyline she and Nikki finally discover they swapped phones accidentally. When Nikki comes to pick up her phone she happens on Stacy baking. Two pages in the cookbook were stuck together, however, and she has accidentally made a pie/cake mash-up. It turns out that it's delicious though so Nikki says they should open a bakery together selling Stacy's "pakes." Stacy asks Jane for $10,000 in start-up money but when Jane wants to see her business plan, Stacy gets offended. Later they make up and Jane apologizes for being unsupportive. Stacy says she overreacted. Plus, Stacy talked to Luke and he's installing her a convection oven so she can run her business from home. It turns out when Jane turned him down to live in the place, he bought the building and got permission from Stacy to come and go as he pleases, much to Jane's chagrin.
In the night's main storyline, Jane and Grayson take on the case of a millionaire teen who runs a video game company. He wants to sue his own dad to be able to attend a conference in Buenos Aires. Because he's a minor he needs his dad's permission and he won't give it. Jane and Grayson meet with the dad who it turns out is an LAPD detective and single father who is adamant about his son not leaving the country. The son then wants to sue for emancipation. Jane is against this idea since the dad seems like an otherwise good guy and the teen seems petulant but she is his lawyer so she goes ahead with it.
In the course of her research she discovers that the young man in fact is a missing person. It turns out he was the son of a drug addicts who abandoned him at a crime scene. The detective picked him up and took him home, filed paperwork with child services and waited. Nothing ever happened so he raised the boy as his own. He knew it was wrong but he knew the alternatives were grim.
Now child services wants to place the boy and his younger sister in the system and he is wracked with guilt because he realizes if he hadn't filed for emancipaton this wouldn't have happened. Jane represents the father in court. In the coure of her research she finds the boy's birth mother who says she can't take care of him. She wants to know how she can help her son. Jane gently suggests that the possibility exists that the woman asked the detective to take her son. The mother seems willing to go along with this until the cops show up and arrest Jane for witness tampering. Owen bails her out and kindly does not judge her saying he knows the world isn't black and white. The teen pays off his mother to go away. And Jane successfully argues that since the father has been uncharged and unprosecuted for 15 years after many people knew what he was doing the statute of limitations has run out. His fellow cops all literally stand up for him and he is exonerated. The birth mom comes back to make sure that he's happy and loved. She returns the check saying she thought it was what she wanted but it isn't.
Grayson proposes a victory celebration where he and Deb used to hang out, just another sign that he's getting closer to connecting the dots. When Jane shows up at the bar, Luke warns her that Grayson can't know and if she tells him, something bad will happen to him. He says Jane needs to put Deb and Grayson behind her and move on as Jane.
Grayson asks the pianist in the bar to play "Unchained Melody" because it always made Deb cry, in an effort to unmask Jane. But Jane pretends she didn't like "Ghost" or "Unchained Melody." When Grayson goes to the bar Owen shows up saying Jane texted him. Luke took Jane's phone and did the deed. Grayson turns and sees Owen and is disappointed. Owen congratulates her on her victory and court and wonder why she is crying. She says it's the song.

"Drop Dead Diva" - "Freak Show" - June 17, 2012
Stacy and Nikki (Kim Kardashian) come to the office to talk to Grayson about their "pake" business and run into Jane, who asks where they're getting the start-up money. Stacy says she's using all of her savings for half and Nikki's putting up the other half and that they came to Grayson for advice because Jane wasn't supportive. Jane, who has since apologized, says she understands. But when Grayson later uncovers Nikki has an outstanding arrest warrant and a record and several aliases Jane can't keep mum. But when she goes home to tell Stacy, she runs into Nikki, who threatens her. Later an angry Stacy confronts Jane saying Nikki has an arrest warrant because she was speeding away from an abusive relationship, which is also the reason she has aliases. Jane again apologizes but it turns out that she was right: Nikki absconds with Stacy's savings. Jane promises that she will invest in Stacy's company and help her with a business plan.
Teri comes to Jane with a new client. An older woman (Patty Duke), was let go from a big box superstore from tackling a customer who was stealing a carton of printer cartridges. The company said it fired her for violating its "non confrontation" clause when it comes to robbery but the woman thinks she's just being screwed out of her pension. She seems perfectly reasonable so Jane looks into it. She discovers the woman has been badmouthing the store's branded products to customers and was cited many times for this so the company actually has cause. But then she tells Jane she only tells customers the truth about the products, that they're not as good as the claim on the front of the box says that they are "as good as the leading national brand." She says she was given to this truth-telling after she was in a car accident with her sister. Her sister died and she feels like her sister's spirit is in her now and she must tell the truth on her behalf. Jane, inspired by what she thinks is another person like her, decides to refile the woman's case as a "whistle blower" case, saying the woman is actually trying to help customers. In court she has the judge (Valerie Harper) try the company's chocolate chip cookies in a taste test against the national brand. The national brand is a clear winner. The company's CEO and lawyer counter that as the products are 30% cheaper the public knows not to believe the "puffery" on the box. It seems like a setback but when Teri discovers that the car accident that the woman and her sister were in was caused by the company's faulty brakes in a company car serviced by the company, Jane hits a slam dunk in court, proving that indeed they were not as good as the leading national brand. The company gives the woman her pension and a cash settlement and the authorities are looking into it. The woman is thrilled. Jane is also thrilled that she has a kindred spirit until Luke brings her the woman's medical files. It turns out her personality changed after the accident not because her sister's spirit entered her but because she had a brain trauma that altered her internal filter. Jane is sad but tells Luke she's happy and focusing on her life as Jane.
Kim takes on the divorce case of Owen's sister Olivia. She signed a pre-nup that only gives her $10,000 unless her husband cheats. She's going to argue that he has cheated with Eve, the Siri-like app he created for his software company. She supported him through the lean times and he became so work-obsessed with Eve that they haven't had sex in a year so she feels like she's been cheated on and is angry that he now wants to dump her as the money is about to roll in. It's an unconventional case but Kim and Parker win it on the basis that Olivia's husband used her essence to create Eve-- giving her Olivia's birthday, level of education and other characteristics--without her permission and therefore she deserves some of the profits. She will be getting half and is thrilled. Kim and Parker celebrate by going to have a drink.
In a sidebar to the case, it turns out that Olivia hates Jane but Jane can't remember why. Teri does a search and can't come up with any commonalities between them. Jane asks Owen to invite Olivia over for dinner. When she arrives and Jane announces they're having Indian food, Olivia stalks out. Jane runs after her and gets the story out of her. Apparently, in high school they all competed at a model U.N. competition. Olivia's good friend had a crush on Jane and they ended up dating and having a flirtation. When he came to surprise her at college on her birthday freshman year he walked in on her having sex with her RA and he was heartbroken so Olivia has hated Jane ever since. (In the model U.N. Jane was India, thus Olivia was offended by Jane's offer of Indian food.) Jane apologizes profusely and says she really hopes they can put it behind them because she loves Olivia's brother and wants to be friends. Owen overhears this and comes over and gives her a big kiss and says he loves her too and teases her that she said it first.

"Drop Dead Diva" - "Winning Ugly" - June 24, 2012
Grayson and Owen compete in a lawyers vs. judges basketball game, very competitively with Owen winning, when Jane gets a call on a case.
Kim and Jane take the case of a man who is suing a doctor and a makeover reality show called "Ugly Duckling." His wife Renee was going to go on the show and was very excited to be "pretty" so she could be in her family's photos. But the day before her plastic surgery for the show the doctor told her she was "too ugly" to be helped. The show's lawyer says the doctor isn't liable but is willing to settle. The offer is insulting and they go to trial.
A jury consultant, hired by Luke, shows up to help Jane. Jane cross-examines the doctor who admits he told Renee she was too ugly for the show and the jury consultant explains the breakdown of who is for, against, and undecided. They need 9 jurors so they have to convince the six undecideds. The consultant suggests Jane tone down her "runway model" style.
Back in the courtroom, Jane tries to tone it down while she cross-examines her husband who explains Renee had a tough childhood because she was "ugly" and had very poor self-esteem. When questioned by the other lawyer the husband says he thought Renee was beautiful but admits to a one-night affair. The lawyer says maybe it was his affair that drove her to suicide. The jury consultant says the jury has turned and they don't need a consultant, they need a miracle worker.
Jane goes to Luke and says she knows the jury consultant isn't about the case but getting her to lose her Deb-like style. Luke is playing with his new toy a remote-controlled helicopter that has a spy camera in it.
Jane goes to talk to Grayson about her case. He's shooting office baskets like a champ. Turns out he threw the game because they have to appear in front of the judges so there's no upside to winnning. Jane gets emotional talking about her case and how Grayson wouldn't understand because he's never had to struggle with his appearance and could get any girl he wanted. He says not any girl. Jane leaves near tears.
Back in court, Kim takes over to help work on an undecided juror who seems sweet on her. She questions Renee's doctor who says she was in good spirits. Opposing counsel points out she was on anti-depressants and asks for a directed verdict. The judge says he's inclined to go that way if Jane can't come up with a more compelling case.
When she returns to the office, Owen has se up a lovely, romantic lunch to boost her spirits. He crows about besting Grayson in the basketball game. She lets the cat out of the bag that the lawyers let them win. Owen asks Jane if she and Grayson ever dated. She says no. He doesn't believe her. She swears that Jane Bingum has never dated Grayson Kent.
Jane watches Renee's tape for the show and tries to figure out how to help. Kim comes to her with an idea. She's figured out that the show dropped Renee not because she was too ugly but because her procedures wouldn't have been done in time for the airdate. The opposing counsel wonders what it has to do with wrongful death. Kim says it doesn't, they're changing their complaint to breach of implied covenant of fair dealing. They get the motion for directed verdict denied. The juror who is infatuated with Kim gets in the elevator with Jane and Kim and says they're going to win. Jane tells Kim it's grounds for a mistrial but Kim says not if they keep their mouths shut. They fight about doing the right thing, with Jane of course wanting to tell. Then opposing counsel shows up with a new settlement offer that is much higher. Kim tries to convince the husband to go for more money and Jane says Kim is probably right but obviously is less convinced. The husband rejects the offer. The judge calls them in and confronts them with video of the juror talking to Kim and Jane in the elevator. He questioned the juror who says he was only trying to impress Kim. The judge replaces the juror with an alternate and says he will decide on whether he disbars Kim and Jane after the trial is over.
Jane does her closing arguments by talking about her own style of acting like she's a runway model even though people judge her for not looking like one. She explains how the doctor violated an implied contract between a woman looking to feel beautiful and a man looking to make a buck.
The verdict comes back in and Jane and Kim win big.
The judge calls Kim and Jane and Parker into his chambers. The judge makes Parker donate their portion of the judgement to the Bar Association's charity or he will disbar Kim and Jane.
Luke confronts Jane and says this case was never about her, at least it wasn't about Deb who would've thought this case was silly. Jane says she is Deb and she didn't think the case was silly. Luke shows Jane her family photo and asks who isn't in it. Jane realizes it's Jane. Luke says Jane wasn't in a lot of her family photos, unlike Deb who never met a camera she didn't like. He hopes Jane can win and keep the money the next time since the firm needs it.
Parker's son Eric shows up unexpectedly, all by himself and asks if he can all him dad, Parker says yes. His mom doesn't know he's there so Parker has her called and has him come into his office on his case. Parker is working on an arbitration between two women. One claims the other "ran off" with her husband Trent. The twist is Trent died six months ago and the woman believes her husband was reincarnated as a rat. The other woman took the rat.
It turns out the rat was born the day Trent died. Like Trent the rat doesn't like peanut butter-- which most rats do-- and it has a similar birthmark. Trent's widow found a flirty email between Trent and the other woman-- an employee of their pet store-- and she admitted that she and Trent were in love and she ran off with the rat.
Eric's mom shows up livid.Eric apologizes and wants to stay with Parker and work on the rat arbitration, claiming he wants to be a lawyer when he grows up.
Back in the room with the two rat ladies and they argue over who Trent loved more. The mistress produces letters and the widow produces her marriage license. The mistress says she'd treat him well and the wife says she'd feed him to a rat. Eric doesn't like that.
Parker and his baby mama talk. She is about to go to Toronto for a temp job. She says she's confused because first he yelled at her and then he tried to pay her off to go away and then he went looking for her in Chicago. He says he wants to be part of Eric's life.
Parker stipulates that the rat is just a rat and not a man then his wife gets the rat. She's about to feed it to the snake when Parker realizes that the wife is just killing it to get back at the mistress because she believes it's Trent. Parker stops her and says no matter what they believe, Trent didnt treat either of them with the love and respect they deserved and he wasn't there for them and was selfish and needed to grow up-- he's also describing himself to his baby mama and Eric who are in the room-- and he should've apologized but instead he was a rat.
The women give the rat to Eric.
Eric's mother asks Parker to care for him while she's in Canada, he's excited to do it.
Stacy has a "pakery" emergency and Jane and Teri go to help. The place is in a state of disarray and she's opening the next day and Jane presses Teri into helping her get the place together. She bribes her by saying she'll help if she can play her guitar at the opening. Teri comes to do a soundcheck and just that. Stacy comes to complain that Teri isn't helping. Five hours before the opening Teri shows up with her team to help Stacy. They whip the place into shape. Everyone shows up for the opening and it's a big success.
Since he found he threw the game Owen challenges Grayson to a rematch right now, in their suits, at the gym down the street. They go at it.
Back at the pakery Teri sings her tune. She's not terrible. She sings a song about pakes.
Jane takes off to the gym where Grayson is schooling Owen. Owen leans in to Grayson and says "you won the game but I think we both know who's winning here." He then goes and kisses Jane and they leave.
