Mei Melancon was born in the Philippines but grew up mainly in Japan. Her mother is of French heritage and her father is Japanese and Chinese. As a young girl she was fortunate to travel with her family to different countries in Asia and Europe. At the age of 5 her Mother started teaching her guitar and during school breaks she was part of a performance group that traveled and performed extensively throughout Asia. She also acted in school plays, her favorite being Hans Christian Andersons, "The Little Match Girl." She was exposed mainly to classic movies such as Ben Hur, National Velvet and My Fair Lady. Her movie idols were Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall and Audrey Hepburn. She started leaning towards pursuing acting when her family settled in The States in her early teens. While having a successful modeling career she began studying with various acting coaches in 2001. In her free time, Mei emphatically embraces the outdoors, rock-climbing, camping and her favorite, surfing. She is also an avid writer. Mei has practiced Wushu Kung Fu and enjoys playing the guitar. She currently resides in Los Angeles.
