Jonno Roberts started his acting career in New Zealand, where he was a company member and director at the country's oldest avant-garde theatre company, the Free Theatre. After leaving NZ in 1999 he went on to train and perform in plays in Europe, Russia and the US, eventually getting a Masters degree from Harvard University's Institute for Advanced Theatre Training. Jonno has been seen on-Broadway (in the Tony-Award winning "Take Me Out") and off (most notably as the paranoid Gulf War veteran Peter Evans in the hit play "Bug"), and in numerous productions at major regional theaters. His performance as Benedick in "Much Ado About Nothing" at Boston's Commonwealth Shakespeare Company was seen by more than 85,000 audience members and garnered him a Best Actor nomination at the New England IRNE awards, and he has established himself around the US as a successful interpreter of Shakespearean roles. Adrian Noble, former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, has picked Jonno to be a headliner for 2010 in his season as guest Artistic Director at the Old Globe in San Diego, playing Edmund the Bastard in King Lear and Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew (to be directed by Ron Daniel).On camera, Jonno has played evil twins on "As the World Turns"; evil warlords on "Xena" and "Hercules"; evil pimps; evil lawyers; murderous husbands, night club owners, Serbian terrorists and escaped convicts; and occasionally even a mild-mannered surfer or bereaved husband. His performance as a conflicted American expatriate in the feature film "The Elephant King" (opposite Tate Ellington and Ellen Burstyn) was nominated for awards at theatre festivals in Europe, the US, and Cairo.He currently lives in Los Angeles.
